Why this FAQ?

That’s why we’re committed to providing clear information and want to foster connections with local residents and the surrounding community. In the FAQ below, we answer frequently asked questions about our reception centers.
FAQ for Local Residents: Frequently Asked Questions About Shelter Locations Where TM Is Involved
Who is TM Opvang & Projectmanagement?
TM Opvang supports municipalities, safety regions, and partners at shelter locations. Our work includes location management, housing support, crisis response, project management, and operational support.
Our role varies by location. Sometimes we are solely responsible for day-to-day management at a location. In other cases, we provide support in areas such as resident support, safety, quality of life, communication, or collaboration with relevant partners.
TM is not a government agency and therefore does not decide whether to establish a reception center. That responsibility lies with the municipality, the national government, the COA, or other competent authorities, depending on the situation. We only assist with the implementation and ensure that it proceeds as smoothly as possible.
What does TM do at a reception center?
Shelter is more than just setting up beds at a location. We provide structure, oversight, and guidance at the shelter. This may include:
- Day-to-day management of the site
- Support for Residents
- Explanation of House Rules and Agreements
- Contribute to activities for residents, such as language classes and volunteer work
- Identifying Concerns or Tensions
- Coordination with the municipality, security, healthcare, and other partners
- Organizing Communication with Residents
How is security organized on and around the site?
Safety starts with clear guidelines, visibility, and cooperation. That is why, at reception centers, we implement house rules, designate points of contact, and provide guidance and supervision. We coordinate these measures with the relevant parties.
Depending on the location, there may be collaboration with:
- The municipality
- Healthcare Providers
- COA
- Refugee Services
- Security
- Neighborhood Partners
- The police
- Other organizations involved
TM focuses not only on incidents, but also on prevention. To prevent stress, we ensure clear communication, a structured daily routine, and support for residents.
What happens in the event of disturbances or incidents?
We take reports of disturbances or incidents seriously. Depending on the situation, we determine what is necessary: a meeting with residents, additional support, coordination with security, contact with the municipality, or the involvement of other partners.
In acute or dangerous situations, always call 112.
For non-urgent concerns, please use the contact channel set up for that location. To do so, go to tmopvang.nl/locations
What house rules apply to residents?
Every residential facility has its own house rules. These house rules are important for maintaining peace, safety, and a pleasant living environment both on the premises and in the surrounding area. The rules cover topics such as quiet hours, visitors, and the use of common areas, as well as safety, respectful behavior, and interactions with staff and fellow residents.
TM Opvang helps residents understand and follow these rules.
How are local residents kept informed?
The way in which local residents are informed varies by municipality and location. This is often done through municipal websites, letters to residents, informational meetings, or news reports.
TM Opvang is sometimes involved in this communication. In such cases, we support municipalities by, for example, providing input on questions, practical information, or reports from the facility.
Can residents participate in neighborhood activities?
Whenever possible, we encourage residents to participate in appropriate ways in activities taking place near the shelter. These include language activities, sports, social gatherings, volunteer work, or other local initiatives.
Of course, this is always done carefully and in coordination with the municipality, partners, and the surrounding community.
How is communication with the neighborhood organized?
Engagement with the neighborhood can be organized in various ways. For example, through drop-in sessions, informational meetings, contact persons, or local activities.
At TM Opvang, we believe it’s important to maintain close ties with the local community. Feedback from the neighborhood helps us improve our childcare services.
What can I do if I have an idea?
Ideas from the neighborhood are definitely welcome! Think of sports activities, language buddies, community evenings, and other volunteer work focused on bringing people together and providing support. Not everything is always possible right away, but we’d be happy to see what we can do.
You can share your idea by contacting the location directly or through TM Opvang.
Where can I go with questions about policy or decision-making?
If you have questions about choosing a location, permits, or municipal policy, please contact your local municipality. We provide support for the operation of the shelter, but we do not make decisions regarding the location ourselves.
Who should I contact if I have questions or concerns?
When TM Opvang is involved with a facility, we ensure that concerns are taken seriously and directed to the appropriate party.
